Why Fit Werx Is a Better Value
Price Match:
Whether you just need a new chain for your current bike or you are buying a new bike or wheels, we’d like to earn your business and then keep it. We know that price matters and that you have options when it comes to who you work with. If you see the identical in-stock product for less through an authorized U.S. dealer, please just bring in or e-mail the quote (or the URL of the web site) and we’ll match the price. *
Value:
We all want to get the most we can for our hard earned dollars, right? But what does “getting the most we can for our hard earned dollars” really mean? For starters, it means a lot more than just finding the cheapest price. In fact, value and price are often quite different concepts.
If you consider your buying patterns when it comes to something that is of high value - let’s say your health or the health of your children or significant other - value is not at all related to price. If you are injured or become sick, you don’t go on-line to cheapestdoctor.com or visit Wal-Mart and start searching for the lowest price on oncologists - you find someone you trust to do the job right and as well as possible. The best doctor offers the best value because the chances of you getting better and having fewer problems is higher with them. The same is true whether you are choosing an attorney, a car mechanic, accountant or a bike shop or bike fitter.
A bike’s functionality, and your satisfaction and enjoyment in the long-term, is based in how well the provider did their job from the outset. Just like no one wants to be in surgery again and again trying to fix mistakes or to constantly be remodeling their house because work was not done right, who wants to be working with a compromise laden bike that was priced a couple hundred dollars less, but was not really a very good value? At Fit Werx, we want to offer you more than just a fair price – we want to deliver the best value possible.
Some things to think about in regards to value are below the next time you hear these common claims:
“We won’t be undersold! We sell for less!” More>>
“No charge fitting with bike purchase.” More>>
“Bike X is the best bike for you…” More>>
“But what about shop discounts?” More>>
- “We won’t be undersold! We sell for less!” How can you go wrong when it is guaranteed that you will get the lowest price? You can go wrong because cycling equipment (unlike oil and soybeans) is rarely a commodity. In the case of bikes, even if you are looking at the same make and model at two different shops, they are not really the same. For one, you need to get the right fit and the right size/geometry and some dealers are better at helping in this regard than others (remember, the rest is meaningless if the bike does not fit). Second, a bike is a sum of its parts and does not come out of the box set-up and ready to ride. This is why better shops spec and exchange parts on every bike they sell (production or custom) before delivering the bike to you. Having to replace something like the gearing or handlebars because you found out that what came from the factory was not well suited to you after-the-fact is not giving you the best value, it is costing you more time and money down the road and making riding less fun. Third, every bike has to be built and that requires a technician. Do you want a bike that was built in an hour or two by a $10 an hour shop guy who is working on bikes while going to school or do you want your bike built in 4-5 hours by a career based technician who is on salary and knows that a properly faced bottom bracket shell and better cable routing leads to better aerodynamics, better shifting, lower mechanical resistance and fewer problems? One is definitely cheaper, the other is definitely a better value.
- “No charge fitting with bike purchase.” Sounds great, right? First, it is crucial to distinguish between a “bicycle fitting” and a “bicycle sizing”. Most “bike fits” that are included with purchase are nothing more than very rudimentary “sizings”. These claimed “fittings” frequently start with you choosing the bike you want before you even know what will work best for your body. In other words, this sounds great, but it does not lead to the best end result and thus is of questionable value.
For bike buyers not desiring a comprehensive fitting, we offer a no charge “bike sizing” service with a trained bike fit technician (visit our Fitting Services page for more information). Our basic “bike sizing” offers more than what most shops call a “bike fitting”, but we aren’t going to try to make you believe that you are getting something you are not. You get what you pay for and a “free fitting” (or sizing), through us or anyone else, is not the same thing as a comprehensive bike fitting.
Our comprehensive bike fittings are what Fit Werx was initially built upon. If you choose to complete one of our nationally recognized 2-4 hour comprehensive fitting sessions, we guarantee your satisfaction with the process or we will not charge you for the session. Our bike fittings are excellent inexpensive insurance as your satisfaction on any bike you buy from us (based on the recommendations from your fitting) is guaranteed. Part of providing long-term value on a $2000+ purchase is to make sure you feel confident in your decision.
- “Bike X is the best bike for you…” Regularly we hear people say that they have been to multiple shops and all recommended a different bike as being best for them. Beyond just being confusing, how is this even possible? A frequent contributor is that many shops have huge commitment agreements with the brands they carry and this drives much of what they recommend.
Buying a new bike should be about you and not about what the bike dealer wants to sell - this is why we recommend you start with understanding how your riding position relates to bike options. Is a bike a good value if your purchase was little more than another unit moved off the dealer’s floor?
- “But what about shop discounts?” Regardless of discounts and sponsorship, buy your bike from a place that you would trust with every aspect of the bike (from fit to sizing and design to spec and mechanical set-up). If that is a shop your club or team has a relationship with, great. If it is not, ask yourself how much those few dollars off are really worth and just how much it may cost you in performance, dollars and satisfaction down the road or out on the course.
