"Why would I ever travel to work with Fit Werx when local bike shops offer bike fitting and similar products?"

This is a very good question and one that we are glad to answer.   The main reasons people work with us over shops that are closer to them are our bicycle fitting skills, our specialization and professional customer service, our product availability and selection, our workmanship and attention to detail, and our support of your sport

Explanations, often in our client’s words, as to how we differ from other bicycle and triathlon shops in each department are below:

Bicycle Fitting:

If you need to have surgery, are you going to go to the doctor that is closest to you or the one who is most skilled?  For most of us, the answer to this question is pretty easy – the most skilled.  There are many different levels of quality and specialization among doctors, lawyers, contractors, financial advisers or virtually any other profession.  Bicycle fitters are not any different.

Lately, “Professional Bike Fitting” is being advertised by more and more shops and many are "free" with bike purchase.  Some shops may even have employees that have attended a fitting school or received certification from some of the same programs we are involved with.  However, you almost always get what you pay for and just because someone has attended fitting seminars does not mean they understood what they were taught or that they are going to use what was taught.  For example, the Serotta International Cycling Institute (SICI) offers what is arguably the most comprehensive fitting school in the country.  However, every year we fit a number of riders who have been previously fit by “Certified Fitters” and the vast majority confirm that the fit they received from us was nothing like their past fit experiences.  We offer the most comprehensive, educational and effective fitting sessions possible.  If we did not, over 300 people a year would not travel from as far away as Japan to be fit by us.

No matter what they may insist, a bicycle fit by Fit Werx is not comparable to what your local bike or triathlon shop is offering.  We guarantee it.

A coach who has been fit by a number of shops and by Fit Werx wrote a comprehensive comparison review of his experience and what is different about a Fit Werx’ fit.  Visit http://511endurance.com/bikefit.html to read his assessment of his fitting session.

Specialization and Professional Customer Service:

Have you wondered why being an attorney is considered a profession while working in a bike shop is considered a job? We did. Cycling is our profession and we treat it as such. One of our clients summed this up better than we can, so we’ll let his words explain:

“I looked long and hard for someone to buy my bike from.   I didn't find one local bike shop that I judged competent to determine the right bike for me and to get me set-up properly on it.  Yet in one five minute conversation with Fit Werx, I had 100% confidence that they would get it right for me.  That confidence was rewarded when I took delivery of my new bike and numerous times since with the subsequent service that you have provided to me as well as the many friends and acquaintances I have sent your way.”

We specialize in road and triathlon products and positioning.  This specialization keeps us in close contact with the most up-to-date techniques and products.  Unlike most bike or triathlon shops, road and triathlon bikes are not just part of our business, they are our entire business.

We work one-on-one with you and will take as much or as little time as you want to give you accurate information that can help you make informed decisions.   We are not about chaotic showrooms, poorly informed or overly opinionated salespeople (who may or may not work at the shop next time you go in), or pushing whatever we have a lot of in-stock at a given moment.

No one is a number at Fit Werx and we will always go a step further to make sure you are satisfied with any product or service purchased through us.  We are about you and your needs and taking a more professional approach.

Product Availability and Selection:

From one of our clients from Massachusetts about our Vermont location :

“Fit Werx is the only shop I know of that you can actually see and feel almost all of the hot products related to our sport, like wheels, bars, frames, hydration systems and other accessories that otherwise I can only see in catalogs and magazines.  And what Fit Werx doesn’t have, you will get to insure that your customers get not only what they want, but more importantly, what is optimal for them.”

People often wonder what a company in the middle of Vermont could possibly have that a big metro area shop does not.  In a word, focus.  We don’t stock comfort bikes or kids bikes.  We also don’t stock long-travel suspension forks or full-face helmets.  While all these types of riding are great in their own right, we are focused on carrying road and triathlon cycling products only.  This means we are in-tune with these categories in ways that less specialized retailers simply cannot equal.   We have the best products in the road and triathlon cycling industry in-stock, on display (in an organized and concise manner) and ready for you.

This being said, we would not be doing you a service by just stocking everything or what is most popular at a given moment.   We are very selective about the products we carry.  They must be proven performers in regards to fit, quality, value and function.  This helps people get the best products for their needs while avoiding purchasing poorly designed $400 handlebars that don’t fit them well and are destined for eBay…

Workmanship and Attention to Detail:

You would not buy a car that came off the lot with a bumper that is only partially attached or with a door that does not shut properly.  However, the vast majority of bike buyers, even buyers of high end bikes, unknowingly suffer this very fate.  Quality and long-term value is in the details.  Again, a client explains it better than we can:

“The attention to detail that went into building up my bike was above and beyond my expectations.  And that is saying something because my expectations were very high!  I have seen a number of bikes similar to mine where I can notice multiple details that were not attended too with the care that went into mine.  Things like cable routing and frame preparation, that you may not normally notice as being done poorly, stand out clearly when they have been done with excellence.”

Whether it is a $1200 bike or a $15,000 bike, we sweat the details when it comes to bike set-up and positioning.  We tear every bike we get down to the frame and rebuild it part-by-part to guarantee that it is right.  Is this the cheapest or most efficient way to build a bike?  No way.  Does it help the bike ride and fit better and last longer?  You bet.

We Support Your Sport:

From our sponsorship of road teams to our attendance and support of 8-12 triathlons annually, Fit Werx supports more cycling based events and is there for more of our athletes than any other shop in the Northeast.   Part of our mission is to give back to the sports that support us.

If you choose to work with Fit Werx, we guarantee that your experience will be unlike any bike shop you have ever worked with. If you are ready for a more professional experience, you are ready for Fit Werx.
