About Us:

Road riders and triathletes have specialty needs that deserve the attention to-detail and focus that only a specialist can offer.  The cycling industry has very few specialists and in 2001 Fit Werx was established to help fill this void.

Fit Werx was born from the concept that proper fit and positioning is the most important element in athlete performance and optimal product selection. Our goal from day one has been to help cyclists and triathletes meet and exceed their cycling goals through proper positioning and individualized product selection. We provide education about how your body and riding position relates to your cycling equipment while providing technical information on cycling products that is based in science and research and not marketing and hype. We want you to be able to make the most informed product decisions possible for your individual needs.

How was the need for Fit Werx realized? While I was working as a sales and marketing manager for a bicycle manufacturer, I spoke with and visited shops and consumers from all over the country.  From these experiences, it became apparent that riders (and shops) had more questions about fitting and rider positioning than any other subject and that these questions were often being answered inaccurately and inconsistently. My partner (Sarah Shorett) and I had both worked through personal fitting related issues with cycling, skiing and running equipment and it was apparent to us that there were biomechanical solutions to many comfort and performance related cycling issues.  It also was evident that the most common systems and formulas used to fit bicycles were missing important elements that would highlight these solutions.  By combining further research and specialty training with our professional and athletic experiences and knowledge, we developed a comprehensive and consistent biomechanical fitting system (from custom footbeds to computer based performance assessments) designed to address the cyclist as a whole.

Fit Werx’s initially gained a reputation for professionally fitting riders of all levels (from Olympians to first year athletes) to their existing bicycles.  However, proper fit and optimal product selection go hand-in-hand and we soon established a reputation for offering an exceptional selection of the best specialty cycling products available as well.  By taking a professional, scientific, consultative and individualized approach to fitting and product selection, Fit Werx’s is proud to have established an environment and level of client service that is unique in the cycling industry.

Since our humble beginnings in a single room of an old Vermont farm house, we have expanded our product and service offerings significantly - including adding a second location outside of Boston, MA in 2007. Today, Fit Werx serves athletes of all abilities from around the world and is better equipped than ever to exceed your expectations. We hope that we can help you achieve your cycling goals in the future and that you find our Web site informative and helpful. Thank you for visiting. - Ian Buchanan, Fit Werx co-founder
